V-2 marked USN M-1 helmet

I recently picked up this interesting USN M-1 helmet. The shell is a Navy painted WWII front seam swivel bail with OD #7 chinstraps. The liner was left with its original olive drab factory paint. The front & rear are stenciled V-2, the front is also stenciled LONG, I believe this is the sailors last name. What looks like USS SIBONEY is hand written on the leather sweatband. The USS Siboney was an escort carrier launched in November of 1944. I also found a crew roster for the Siboney that lists a Long who served in 1947. I was curious about the V-2 markings on the liner. I saw a modern reference for a carrier that their V-2 division worked with the catapults. Not sure if this is correct for the era of this helmet but thought I would ask if anyone knew? Thanks!

On the WWII USS Enterprise (CV-6), the V-2 Division was responsible for "Fueling, lubrication, and hangar deck plane handling".

I believe 3rdMarDivMP is correct. The WW2 V2 division's job was different from today's V2 division.

Here is a picture from the USS Intrepid WW2 cruise book. It details the V2 division responsibilities. Sorry for the confusion.
