strawberry 9 Posted December 9, 2019 Share #1 Posted December 9, 2019 I recently acquired a journal belonging to Ernest W. Kasser, ASN 13179292. According to the army enlistment records he was 11yrs old upon enlistment...born in 1931. I know he was an African American soldier assigned to HQ Co. 24th Reg. STA of the Signal Corp section. I haven't been able to find much else. Not even on the "Find a Grave" website. Any help would be appreciated. Enlistment records has him at 11yrs old at time of enlistment. Can't be right though....right? Also, know that he was from Philadelphia.

kkevin2004 Posted December 9, 2019 Share #4 Posted December 9, 2019 Interesting. I find it hard to believe that an 11 year old would be married. Maybe an error on the DOB.

strawberry 9 Posted December 9, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted December 9, 2019 That’s what I’m guessing. Plus in that era, African American births probably weren’t well documented. Lots of mentions of Patton in his diary as he was attached to the 3rd Army. Plus mentions the death of FDR, Ernie Pyle, Mussolini, Hitler and VE Day. Still reading.
