Would you happen to know what unit this "Recon" patch is for ?

  • Not sure if it is even for a U.S. unit
  • The winged skull is smoking a cigar and has devil horns
  • The torch behind the skull seems to indicate a military school.

Thank you advance for your help !

Thank you Patches. You may have pointed me in the right direction.

Below is the insignia awarded to those in the the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) that have passed their Reconnaissance course.

Note the torch in the background of the patch and the torch on this insignia.

I would think though that; since the JROTC is a high school program, that a patch for these folks would not have a cigar on it.

Thanks again !

A lot of college level ROTC units back in the day had Ranger, Recon, Raider... etc. units. These were a subset of the larger ROTC detachment, and they focused on Ranger style training for small unit leadership in a tactical environment. Some of them came up with their own distinctive patches that were different from the official school ROTC patch.
