USARV72 Posted November 29, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted November 29, 2019 Met a few CBI Veterans over the years most USAAF with funny stories. Somewhere in my stuff is one Weather specialist that flew C-46’s over the Hump. He started out in flight school in Texas, got bored one Saturday, “ borrowed” a trainer for a hour or so flight. When he landed he was busted, thrown out of school, became weather guy. He kept his Cadets uniform( green) , converted to EM , it went with my USAAF collection years ago, to much stuff... mikie Posted November 29, 2019 Share #4 Posted November 29, 2019 Thanks for the poem. I've always had a soft spot for the CBI theater.
USARV72 Posted November 29, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted November 29, 2019 Glad you all enjoyed poem. The weather specialist gave me some maps they used flying over the Hump, had red lines denoting the radio direction finding borders, interesting. Another “ sort of group” was Co of Kungming supply depot. His daughter sold me most of his gear including a near mint 41 field jacket size 44! She had “ boxes full of pics and orders” in her attic, begged her to at least allow me to make copies, no luck. Very strange, so just had a pile of gear. Had his Cav. uniform on dummy in her living room, very nice, he was in WWI too. Even had a presentation sword given to him by Chaig Ki Ceck( sorry for sp), she wouldnt let anyone even hold it. Sure we all have has similar experiences, lol
