No Quarter Posted November 28, 2019 Share #1 Posted November 28, 2019 Found this BDU at a surplus store today with a great combination of patches. There were two other identical pieces and also a six color chocolate chip pattern jacket as well but with some missing patches. Does anyone know what the patch is on the right sleeve? patches Posted November 28, 2019 Share #5 Posted November 28, 2019 411th as patchrat stated, a Reserve unit in New York, the patch worn as a combat patch for the 1st Gulf War, the unit was activated for it.
patches Posted November 28, 2019 Share #6 Posted November 28, 2019 Curious on the other insignia though, note the 43 over the engineer castle, the 43rd Engineer Battalion, and the Ft Knox Armor patch, haven't seen when the 43rd Eng Bn was a Knox, seen it was at Ft Benning, The Armor Center moved to Ft Benning, in 2011, but by then the ACU was being worn, and then there's the Full Colonel rank, battalions are command by Lieutenant Colonels not Full Birds. Plus the 43rd was inactivated on 15 July 1994.
vzemke Posted November 28, 2019 Share #7 Posted November 28, 2019 The 43rd Engineers is probably worn more as an "affiliation" rather than his current unit. It's very possible this guy commanded the 43rd Engineer Battalion earlier in his career and left this patch on his uniform out of pride.

Too bad too that someone ripped the NAME tape off, this goes back to a quote I made once in an old topic on the stores that for whatever reason insist on ripping NAME tapes off fatique items that come in, sometimes the U.S. ARMY tapes too, with them throwing the NAME tape in the garbage, but throwing the U.S. ARMY tape in the cheap priced patch bucket, ammo box and or bin. True too, that it could be the original wearer of these items removed the tapes himself for whatever reason, but those reasons will be different then a store's reasons I'm thinking. I've found that even uniforms acquired directly from the veteran usually have the name tags removed - people are worried about privacy. Sometimes this is justified but it's really annoying when you know the soldier's last name and it's something really common that couldn't possibly be traced back to an individual! No Quarter Posted November 29, 2019 Author Share #16 Posted November 29, 2019 Thanks Patchrat and Patches for the ID. I am good friends with the store owner and he got them with the name tapes already gone. The Colonel’s last name was Jones. I’ll ask him if he has any more info. He has many other of his uniforms but I’m picking those up when I come back from college around Christmas. Jacob

Jacob Yes, because it's such a incredibly common surname, it's hard to look for, already spent a bit looking around, using all sorts of keywords no dice. Ideally one needs a detailed order of battle for the desert storm period 411th Eng Bde, that lists commanders and staff, but that's not forthcoming, a early 90s officer registry would help too, but there not viewable past 1969. BDU_Burger_Lover Posted December 6, 2019 Share #18 Posted December 6, 2019 Great top! Hopefully your friend will be able to give you some pointers that will help us ID him. You could also try inspecting his other uniforms when you get the chance and look for clues which he might (or might not) have written on the inside such as his initials and what not. Where is the store located? Looking up people with that last name who live in the area might also be of some help.
