triplecanopy Posted November 26, 2019 Share #1 Posted November 26, 2019 While I don't collect Sub badges, I have this one that belonged to a family member. If I recall, he was an Annapolis Grad before WWII. It is marked MYRGOLD and it is heavy. Pin only opens to about 60 degrees. After reading a bit, I saw a comment about the positioning pin. Since this is out of my area of expertise, I would like to hear from those of you who are knowledgeable on this subject. What do I have here? Thanks in advance. tarbridge Posted November 26, 2019 Share #3 Posted November 26, 2019 Great Sub badge...they are usually early with the positioning pin. I believe they stopped using them because they damaged the uniform more than they helped.
triplecanopy Posted November 26, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted November 26, 2019 Thanks. Is the MYRGOLD a makers hallmark or a type of metal?
tarbridge Posted November 26, 2019 Share #5 Posted November 26, 2019 I think that is a Meyer mark. Maybe something to the effect of Meyer Gold..
triplecanopy Posted November 26, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted November 26, 2019 That makes sense, but not having seen that mark before I was not sure that it was an NS Meyer brand. Thanks.
MikeK Posted November 28, 2019 Share #7 Posted November 28, 2019 From what I've read, it's a Meyer mark that combines the process/quality of the gilt finish. The Meyers with horizontal hook are not easy to find these days as they are a desirable variant. Great badge! Regards Mike
