KurtA Posted November 21, 2019 Share #4 Posted November 21, 2019 Are they miniature? I get a sense from the photo they are. Nice looking original WW2 era wings.
Hobza Posted November 26, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted November 26, 2019 Hi, 268th C.A. thank you ) Kurt, I think they are full size. Can a manufacturer be identified? Pin is "atypically" moved up. triplecanopy Posted November 27, 2019 Share #6 Posted November 27, 2019 Your parachute wings are what many collectors call "Graduation Wings" in that they do not have a Manufacturer's Hallmark to identify what company made them. The Govt. supposedly did not want to show favoritism to any particular maker. There are numerous examples of these non-hallmarked STERLING wings and I have posted some here. The wings most like yours are in the upper left position. While not an exact match, they are close. By examining similar characteristics like wing design, thickness, flat or hollow back and other die differences, one can see that some non-hallmarked wings bear close resemblances to ones that are hallmarked. Most of these variations are unknown as to who made them and will probably remain so. Noteworthy is placement of the STERLING mark. There are many others out there. You just have to find them. triplecanopy Posted November 27, 2019 Share #7 Posted November 27, 2019 Just for reference, here are the front sides of the above jump wings in their same position. You can clearly see that some makers deviated from the original "Yarborough' design by slightly changing the shape and size as well as other wing details to make small variations.
