Soldier Signed Afrika Korps Pith Helmet Souvenir

Here's a neat item I wanted to share with the forum, a signed souvenir Pith Helmet. I've seen signed flags on the forum but not something like this. I got it from a auction down in Missouri that had a couple pieces of Nazi militaria. Since I didn't see any US military items I asked a family member who was related to the persons estate being auctioned off if the owner was a veteran and she replied no. She said in the 50's he was a bartender that would accept war souvenirs to pay off a bar tab.

On the other hand, I was wondering if it is at all possible to find out what unit the soldiers could be from? I'm not very good at researching so any tips would be appreciated!

Hope you enjoy,

John
