Seeing the interesting WW II Era Krag ammo box posted, prompted me to post this box. The most interesting part is the Ordnance stamp on the upper left corner of the end of the box. The box is marked on the front (long side)

SMALL ARMS AMMUNITION METALLIC CARTRIDGES

MADE IN USA

WESTERN CARTRIDGE COMPANY EAST ALTON, ILL., USA

1.27 CU. FT.

77 LBS

post-1549-0-97884000-1574017185_thumb.jpg

And marked on the end (short side):

960

7.92 m/m BALL CARTRIDGES

GRADE A SITHOUT CLIPS

LOT WCC 6804

The lid is missing and there are no other markings except some hand written cryptic numbers in black crayon. The box looks WW II era to me. My guess is to use in captured weapons? One more photo in next post.

Comments welcome, thanks for looking.

The Nationalist Chinese (Brens as one example) and the British Commonwealth (Besa MGs in tanks) both used 7.92mm calibre weapons so the ammunition could have been manufactured for either group.
