MasonK Posted November 13, 2019 Share #5 Posted November 13, 2019 Photos from the auction below. Planchet looks good, and can be re-ribboned with period ribbon and brooch. Current drape is for the USMC Phillippine Campaign medal. The medal is the value. It's in the traceable range: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/76017-us-campaign-medals-that-are-traceable-by-number/

Jim T Posted November 13, 2019 Share #7 Posted November 13, 2019 Beautiful medal. And the fact that the box survived all those years adds a whole lot to the value. Yes....unfortunately thats a first type Philippine Campaign ribbon but the (blackened) pin and sewing is right as rain for that timeframe and i bet the ribbon and thread will prove original under blacklight. Heres the number attribution from OMSA monograph 13, The Boxer Uprising, Campaigns, Medals And Men by Wheatley, Weaver and McDowell. (notice how there is no favoritism by rank like Army issues; and aphabetical! Congrats to the new owner. .........
bobgee Posted November 14, 2019 Share #8 Posted November 14, 2019 In addition to China Relief #46, Pvt Robert Elliott also received Philippine Campaign # 143; Cuban Pacification # unk; 1912 Nicarguan Campaign #194 and may have also received another China Relief #604 in 1926. This info from the Scott Smith records. A really nice early group. If this China turned up alone it could account for the 1925 repacement. Semper Fi!
