95 Chemical Company

Hallo - please assist - Was there ever a DUI approved or made to be used by the 95 th Chemical Company ? I saw there was indeed a 95 Chemical Mortar Battalion. Even this Battalion - was there a DUI made for this unit ?

Was any shoulder patches approved or made ?

As a Company sized unit, it will be a Non Color Bearing Unit, meaning it did not have a Color, an example of an Infantry Color, Chemical Battalions wound have one like this, only in a different background Branch Color, Colbat Blue, they would have a Guidon though, one for the 50th Chemical Company like this one, here instead of the 50 seen here it will just say 95. Because of all this this they would not have a DUI of their own. A company sized unit at the end of WWII, could havea very unofficial DUI made up for it, with the apporval the company commander, but these are very very very very rare that these were made up, most simply did not wear a DUI then, some individuals might wear what are called Patch Type Crests, a metal pin made in the shoulder patch and worn in the same place on the uniform the DUI would of been worn, but even here, it was somewhat rare, see HERE

 

Now the 95th Chem Co was in WWII and Korea, what period are we looking at? a patch worn wise.

There is no known DI, whether authorized or not, nor is there a fantasy example, for either the 95th Chemical Service Co or 95th CMB. The 95th CMB recd one campaign credit, and was probably assigned to an Army (not the 9th). There is no known UA patch for them.

 

The Company recd campaign credits only for Korea. The Company would have been a subordinate unit of a larger command, e.g., I or IX Corps, or more likely, 8th US Army. The Company, if they wore any patch, would have worn a patch of a unit similar to any of those three.

The Company recd two CONUS campaigns in WW 2, and as it was activated in Panama, it would be reasonable they wore the Panama Canal Dept patch at some point. Little info avail on troop movement, but at some point they left Panama.

To add to tredhed2, it seems the 95th Chem Co was sent out somewhere in the Pacific were there was no fighting, as it has Asiatic-Pacific Theater Streamer Without Inscription this means it partipated in no combat or combat support actions, and that means either Alaska (NOT including the Aleutian Islands Fighting) or Hawaii, or one of the Island Groups were the fighting had moved on, or where said islands were not in the direct combat theater, The Solomons say in the case of the former, or say New Hebrides etc in the latter, in any these cases a real High Command patch will be worn on the Class As and or Khakis of a returning home vet of this unit, which one? That would have to be determined by where exactly the unit was stationed out there.

 

In Korea it goes in early Pusan, but seems to have been stationed it whole time at Pusan afterwards, because of this it nevertheless still receives campaign credit for the whole war. If this is the case, then were looking at one of three shoulder patches, the 8th Army, the 2nd Logistical Command (1st or 2nd Pattern, or the Korea Communication Zone (1st or 2nd Pattern). As an additional piece of info, the 95th Chemical Company was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation Plaque for service 30 August 1950 -2 March 1951.
