Wharfmaster Posted November 11, 2019 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2019 Found this badge in an antique shop. About 3 inches wide and made of silver plated brass. No maker mark. Note the open clasp. Any idea on this one ? Thanks, Wharf

Steve Brannan Posted November 11, 2019 Share #3 Posted November 11, 2019 It is certainly the WW I style but was probably made in the 1930s 40s or even later. The US should be a gold color.
cwnorma Posted November 11, 2019 Share #4 Posted November 11, 2019 Most likely an "aviator badge" marketed after WW1 and up though WW2. Nice early badge, and certainly collectible. It might even be considered a "replacement" badge worn between the wars. Most collectors however would not include this as a true WW1 era badge. Best wishes! hawk3370 Posted November 12, 2019 Share #5 Posted November 12, 2019 According to Duncan Campbell, these open catch "Meyer" style wings were struck in the 1920-1930's to be sold in the PX. They did not have a US. Someone has attached the US to this one and we often see them showing up on e-bay these days with an applied US and being called original WW1. Which they are not.
