8TH Recon Patch?

Recommended Posts

Hello Im curious about this 8TH Recon Patch. Read that there was a Post WW2 Recon Renaissance Cavalry in the 50s. But have seen 1 or 2 listed as WW2 Patches. Have no idea any thought?

Thanks Best Regards,

These were apparently worn by the 8th Reconnaissance Company, 8th Infantry Division starting sometime in 1955 at Fort Carson Colorado, and probably in West Germany when the 8th Inf Division Gyroscoped there in 1956, and if worn, worn till like 1958, at this, the Army reorganizes the divisions to the PENTOMIC concept and replaces all divisional reconnaissance companies with Cavalry Regiments under CARS, the 8th Infantry Division gets the 3rd Reconnaissance Squadron 8th Cavalry as it's new Recon unit.

The unit's patch was a post war creation. The example shown has been reported as a repro or made well after the unit returned CONUS. The originals have serifs on the ends of the letters like this:

The division never did return to the States tred, it was inactivated in Germany 1992. But the patch if worn to whatever degree would of stopped being worn around 1958 when the 8th Recon Co was disbanded and replaced by the 3rd Rcn Sq 8th Cav.
