6th.MG.BN Posted November 5, 2019 #1 Posted November 5, 2019 I thought I'd share a grouping I have had for awhile. The grouping is for US Marine Platoon Sergeant Alfred Edwards, dog trainer. He enlisted in 1940 and was involved early with Marine Corps war dog training in Cuba and New River,NC. He participated in the battle for Guam, MI, and Iwo Jima, VI. He is pretty well known in Marine war dog history and is mentioned in the book, "Always Faithfull" by Capt. William Putney. I do have a photo album I have to find. I have a question about a War Dog honorable discharge in the group. I always wondered if this was his dog or one he brought back home with him after the war? I wondered about the breed but with a name like "Fritz" I would guess he was either a German Shepard or a Doberman pinscher. Is there anyway to find out based on the dogs service number? Ken
