digi-shots Posted November 4, 2019 Share #1 Posted November 4, 2019 This symbol was found stamped on a wood scabbard (for a late 1800s Philippine Kris/Sundang). To me it appears to be very similar to a medical caduceus.. (anchor with two entwined snakes). I dont see any crow or eagle stampings. Any thoughts as to what it is? Thanks for looking. David Minton Posted November 4, 2019 Share #2 Posted November 4, 2019 Looks sort of like the USPHS symbol.
digi-shots Posted November 4, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted November 4, 2019 Thanks for the photo. I was thinking it might be them... maybe the stamping was a little off (actually it was double stamped, I cropped the pic.. but either way the wings do not seem to be present). The USPH was in the Philippine during the Turn of the century. Here is a pic of the double stamping (die stamp bounced?)
David Minton Posted November 4, 2019 Share #4 Posted November 4, 2019 I could see this being a double stamp. I can't imagine an anchor with two stocks, and it looks like the end of a second set of flukes just above the lower set of snakes.Couldn't tell you if this was USPHS or not, but it is the only symbol I could think of with an anchor and caduceus. manayunkman Posted November 4, 2019 Share #5 Posted November 4, 2019 I agree. In your second picture the first thought I had was double strike.
