kanemono Posted October 31, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2019 Here is an interesting group that I bought in two stages. I purchased the engraved napkin ring, wings and EGA from Larry Stone in 2013. Weinberger’s named Soochow Creek medal was with the group but was sold separately. Several years later I bought his Tientsin, China, yearbook, Cherry Point yearbook, a brass USMC marking stencil with his name and a fighter plane and Weinberger’s named Citadel cadet sword. This is the first Tientsin yearbook I have seen. Arthur Henry Weinberger was born in Greenville, South Carolina on August 19, 1915. He graduated from The Citadel as cadet major (third ranking cadet) in 1939 and was offered a regular commission in the United States Marine Corps. Weinberger served in Shanghai, China, with the sixth Marines in 1937 and then with the Marine Detachment in Tientsin, China, from 1939 to 1941, leaving China on the last boat out before Pearl Harbor. Two of his close friends, with whom he lived in Tientsin, were among the U.S. Marines taken prisoner by Japan. Weinberger then went to the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida, where he qualified as a Naval Aviator on March 28th 1942 as a Captain, according to the list in "Wings of Gold". During World War Two he commanded Marine Aircraft Group 94 Engebi during the Gilbert and Marshall Islands Campaign. Weinberger retired in 1961 as the Chief of Staff at the Marine Air Base at Cherry Point, North Carolina. Arthur Henry Weinberger died at Solano, California, on August 27, 2003. The photograph of Weinberger is with a OS2 Kingfisher Float plane.
