derrbrad Posted October 30, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 30, 2019 An interesting picture from a magazine, I believe. But not sure if it is a fantasy piece, as I can't find any US cavalry charge for WW1. Any thoughts?
aefcav Posted October 30, 2019 Share #2 Posted October 30, 2019 Lol yes quite a fantasy piece, even the provisional squadron ( only ones mounted) were on white convalescing horses provided by the french! but I still like the passion..
derrbrad Posted October 30, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted October 30, 2019 Ha, I picked it up mainly for the artwork. Going to have it framed and put up with the rest of the WW1 era cavalry items I have. Fantasy or not I like the look of it.
Cavdoc83 Posted November 3, 2019 Share #4 Posted November 3, 2019 Yes, a bit fanciful. It may be based on the accomplishments of F Troop, 2nd Cav in the Meuse-Argonne. They captured a German artillery battery as they were trying to limber up. Don't discount the efforts of the Provisional Squadron. They may have been ad hoc, and not well mounted, but they did some really good Cavalry work in the Meuse-Argonne.
