There’s something about finding Militaria that belonged to a veteran who lived close you that makes this hobby not only more personal, but rewarding. I’m fortunate to have many singles and groups belonging to locals. However, there is no one display case large enough to house them all. With this in mind, I took a few special examples and placed them in what I like to call “The Strong Island Display.”

If you have any, please share your items of veterans who lived near you in this thread.

Great idea for a post. Here's the Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal to Chief Commissary Steward Ernest F. Baca last of Long Beach, CA. He was a plank owner on USS San Francisco (CA 38); survived the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal on Frisco, survived the kamikaze sinking of USS Ommaney Bay (CVE 79) and was KIA a couple days later on Jan. 6, 1945 in another kamikaze attack on the ship that rescued him, USS Columbia (CL 56). RIP, Long Beach Sailor.

Thanks, Medalman, glad you liked the write-up. Coincidentally, mes, who has posted two beautiful Purple Heart groups, was the man who copied that service file for me in St. Louis. Mes, if not too much trouble, could you post a close up of the engraving on the Iwo Jima PH?
