I'm not sure what this is. 3.48 inches diameter excluding the top "bulge with the holes in it. If that's included, it's 3.54 in. It weighs right at 6 pounds. I'd appreciate any assistance.

Check internet Civil war sites for cannon ball weights and diameters. From memory, 3.57" is a six pounder smooth bore DIA. Keep in mind iron work fence posts were popular through the 20's,. and many "cannon balls " are fence post iron work. Just my 2c, but pretty sure it is not ordnance related.
