IMPERIAL QUEST

This flew in minutes ago. A nice section of original fabric (approx. 8.5 X 11.5) that was recovered by George Knofler of the 649th Aero Supply Squadron. The 649th was based at Air Production Center #2 located at Romorantin, France and handled crated DH-4 Liberty planes, and spare parts as well. The Liberty engine was featured in the US built version of this fine aircraft and had 100 more horsepower than the Rolls Royce engines that were used in the British production model. This section comes complete with oils stains...perfect.

Here is an example of the aircraft. Since the unit was involved with this model of aircraft, I am assuming that the swatch of fabric came from this type of plane. The oils stains would indicate that this piece is from the fuselage section (cockade).

DH-4 if I remember correctly did not use fuselage cocades. This is most likely from a wing cocade. While stationed at Romorantin this guy might have come into contact with numerous types of aircraft, so who knows what kind of plane this is off of.Paul
