scotty1418 Posted October 23, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2019 Would anyone be able to assist with these unmarked pinbacks? I was told they may be early aerial gunner wings before the official design was accepted in '43, but cant find anything on them or another pair displayed anywhere. Thanks in advance! Gunslinger Posted October 23, 2019 Share #2 Posted October 23, 2019 This design wing is meant for Glider Pilots. I'm not a fan of these stamped wings, so will leave someone else to comment on Authenticity. CDub
PacificGunner Posted October 23, 2019 Share #3 Posted October 23, 2019 I'm not sure what to make of these wings, they look like AAF Observer wings that had a G placed in the center, and the G looks like it came off of a Glider pilot's wing. Perhaps it is some sort of theater made/custom job but I have never seen anything like these wings before. I have seen wings before with an "R" in the center that were worn by radio operators, so maybe this is some other variation for an air gunner. I guess it would be possible for these to have been made by a glider pilot or an air gunner, but I am not sure of the authenticity.
scotty1418 Posted October 23, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted October 23, 2019 Appreciate the thoughts. It did come from an old collection and didnt cost much, but the manufacturing diagnostics on the rear did make me wonder about one of the 'cheaper' type stamped copies...
