MP Liner with Extras - PLEASE HELP

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was offered this MP liner, a leather MP arm band, a cloth band, 2 Vietnam era baseball type caps, dog tags and paperwork.

The paperwork is all POST WWII (dated 1946).

It appears that in 1946 he was appointed 2nd Lt. in the National Guard.

But I believe he served in WWII.

I no longer have an Ancestry account.

I was hoping someone could tell me whether he served during WWII, what if any campaign/s was he in?

Soldier's name is Girard A. Lanno.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aggregated from several sources:

Girard A. Lanno was born March 18, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA. He died November 10, 2005. His enlisted serial #33812852; his officer serial #O-1339886. He entered the Army on June 14, 1944. He was discharged October 14, 1946 at Fort Meade, MD. His service appears to have been within the U.S. aside from 10 days in early 1946. He had been working at the Philadelphia Navy Yard prior to entering the Army. I did not find any other details of his service. His son, Girard J. Lanno served in Korea in the Army in 1966. (Perhaps the MP liner and brassards were the son's.)

The 8th Army MP brassards are from Korea, and look correct for the 1960's era. More likely to be the son's.

  • 2 weeks later...

You guys are right, The Liner has the middle initial J. so it was his Son's helmet.

So his son was stationed in Korea in 1966 during the Vietnam War.

The two baseball caps and arm bands were obviously his too.

I wanted to know what I was looking at before I decided on making an offer or not.

Thanks again
