Hello all from a new poster and a long time collector.

I recently acquired this M9A1 rifle grenade The paint looks to original. There are no markings painted on it and only a U stamped on the stem. Any thoughts on it? I do know yellow was used prior to 1943. How early/rare is this?

Great item and all original. Yes, just about any real M9A1 would be considered scarce today, especially a yellow one. As the paint is so nice and there is no evidence of stencilled markings, I'd wager it was a souvenir from the manufacturing plant that made the metal parts and has never been loaded.

I've seen maybe 6 or 7 yellow examples in collections in the last 35 years and this one is far better than most of them. Congratulations and welcome to the forums.

Dirt Detective

Hi Teekay,

Very nice..I want one...:) These were painted yellow until 1943 then the were painted OD. Is that the brass booster cap I see in the pic? I have a few yellow tails after they were used, but nothing like this. This would look great in anyone's collection..nice find. Mike
