Lt. Kelly Posted October 18, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2019 I picked up another Vietnam era M1 recently and I noticed that the chinstrap buckle is made of blackened brass with a ball attachment marked UC 2 (United Carr). The other shells I have have have green Korean war hardware or bear the anchor stamp. Where in the timeline would you place this one? Thanks! Justin Posted October 18, 2019 Share #2 Posted October 18, 2019 What's the heat stamp in the shell and what does the rest of the hardware look like?
Lt. Kelly Posted October 18, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted October 18, 2019 The clips that mount the straps to the bails are regular black painted stainless. The heat stam is very hard to read but I can make out an M and .. 65.. (?)
RememberThe5thESB Posted October 18, 2019 Share #4 Posted October 18, 2019 Sounds like a 50s McCord shell. What do the brackets look like exactly though? Are they slightly ribbed or flat on the outside? Sent from my SM-J327V using Tapatalk
Lt. Kelly Posted October 18, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted October 18, 2019 You mean the clip? Thanks for the quick responses!
Justin Posted October 18, 2019 Share #6 Posted October 18, 2019 How about the side with the two prongs? Are the ends rounded or square? Same for the adjustable hardware clamp on the long strap
Lt. Kelly Posted October 18, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted October 18, 2019 The ends of the lips on the bail clips are square. The lips on the adjustment clamp on the long strap are rounded.
RememberThe5thESB Posted October 18, 2019 Share #8 Posted October 18, 2019 You mean the clip? Thanks for the quick responses! Yes. I only asked because I know some Euroclones in this style have brass buckles. Or other brass hardware similar to the WW2 fittings. Sounds like you're on track to having a nice early 1950s McCord though since it's definitely USGI. Sent from my SM-J327V using Tapatalk
Lt. Kelly Posted October 18, 2019 Author Share #9 Posted October 18, 2019 The bottom strap (or the one on the right) is the one on the helmet I showed you. The loose buckle is from a post war Belgian "M1 clone"
Lt. Kelly Posted October 18, 2019 Author Share #10 Posted October 18, 2019 And the backs, showing the retainers with rounded and squared "lips."
Lt. Kelly Posted October 19, 2019 Author Share #11 Posted October 19, 2019 I finally found a similar one: a 50's McCord with the same brass hardware.
