Picked this up last weekend. A gift from a PW to his captor for Christmas.

"Dedicated from the PW C⁰52 Christmas 1918".

Bottom engraved "PW11547"

Prisoner of War Escort C⁰52

Harvey Claire McCormick

September 1 1875

Served from 1898 to 1923

From the Battle of San Juan Hill through WW1 & beyond.

The family loaned me a 223 page book of letters dating from January 3 1917 through April 8 1923, all have been transposed to type including all misspellings. Lots of chit chat but quite a bit of camp life, how he got his Purple Heart.

That is a really cool item, and even cooler that you have a letter mentioning it. Thankfully it seems to have made it home without breaking. I wonder if PW11547 is the prisoner number on the individual who made the carving. It would be interesting if you could find out who made it.

Already sent an email, couldn't figure out search with a number only.

Also contacted nation archives & they forwarded it to another search area.

There is hope.

Note: Found this on Harvey Claire McCormick Jr., Harvey's son. Unfortunately, he was killed in an airplane crash a little over 3 years before his father's death.

When I did a search of "11547" Index Cards of German Prisoners I came up with what's below. This was the only prisoner on that particular sheet that showed he was in Chateauroux. I'm not sure it's the right prisoner but I'm throwing it out there just in case. It may not be the correct person at all but I'm showing you just the same.

Reference number of the list containing the prisoner's name

This reference number leads to the register

1914-1918

According to Harvey's timeline he was at Chateaoux September 21 1918 through January 15 1919.

Thomas "should be" the sculptor.

Great work once again Matt Posted Image
