Hi,

What does the Torpedo patch on this WW1 Navy uniform signify? Is he a Machinist Mate that is also Torpedo Man qualified? or does it mean that he is assigned to a Torpedo Boat or Submarine? Thanks

What does this combo mean?

. The Torpedoman rating had not been established at that time. But, it was very related to things Machinests mates fid. Almost every engineering rate wore the MM badge. This Sailor was a Torpedoman. There were many of these Combos prior to rate establishment

Thanks for the info

. Another example, is the Radioman. They wore Electricians Mate rates, with the RM sparks, pointing down, below the EM Rate. All Aviation Rates, wore a regular Fleet Rating badge, with a 4 bladed Air craft propeller on their left forearm.
