If I knew what years Rayford was a Major, it would help date this. I haven't found anything yet with promotion dates.

I had thought the names were written by one person, but in looking at them again I can see that Rayford appears to use small upper-case letters, where Gaines used small lower case, ie. RAYFORD versus Gaines

March 20, 1922- December 31, 2016

Unit: 99th Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group

After the war, Gaines went back to Tuskegee as a pilot trainer in the B-25 bomber.

As I looked for info on the headphone's owner I briefly forgot what else I picked up from Dr. Gaines estate. These ribbons look like they've been stored in a garden shed, but the Purple Heart case survived nicely. I know he received the Purple Heart and became a POW, but I don't know if the ribbons are correct for his service. There was an un-named Air Medal I passed on.

I have been looking for something that would show Dr Gaine's ribbons - I found this and it seems to jibe with the well-weathered ribbon bars I got fom his estate.
