hink441 Posted October 11, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2019 I thought a thread dedicated to your favorite flight suits would be fun. Any flight suit, from any era, and any Branch of service that you would like to share would be awesome. I like direct embroidered Navy flight suits and pick them up whenever I run across them. I will start the thread with this flight suit from VAW-78 the Fighting Escargots. This reserve squadron flies the E-2 Hawkeye

BlueBookGuy Posted October 11, 2019 Share #3 Posted October 11, 2019 hello, a good idea for a topic. Mi fave suit is a great-looking MC-1 Partial Pressure model by David Clark Co, July 1955. Good condition given its age. Always fascinated by this kind of garment, even though here in Europe the (more or less) similar suits from the former Eastern Block are much easier to get. Here some pics of it.

BlueBookGuy Posted October 11, 2019 Share #6 Posted October 11, 2019 And, just to add a non-U.S. touch (for once... ) here my other nine Partial Pressure suits from URSS, Russia, Poland and China. Each of them in one way or another, is 'favorite'. Thanx!! Franco.
hink441 Posted October 11, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted October 11, 2019 Awesome pressure suits!! Thanks for posting. I have never ran across any of these suits during my travels. Something new to be looking for. Chris
BlueBookGuy Posted October 11, 2019 Share #8 Posted October 11, 2019 THX very much Chris. Some more of them (that is, two or three U.S. model from the '50s) would be very welcomed into collection but I can easily figure out they, assuming to be available - not a granted thing - 100% would be waaaay beyond my best efforts. hink441 Posted October 13, 2019 Author Share #9 Posted October 13, 2019 This one is unusual. It belonged to a Navy cook (Culinary Specialist) assigned to the Pacific Fleet Admiral's executive aircraft. Kind of unique flight suit. Any more favorites or unique flight suits out there? Bebel Posted October 17, 2019 Share #11 Posted October 17, 2019 Navy VF-84 "Jolly Roger" Indian Orange flight Suit from Lt Richards (RIO) in 1964/65. Lt Richards was flying before with VF-41 "Black Aces". We can see how the snaps for fixing the VF-41 particular tape name were attached on the suit. Bebel Posted October 17, 2019 Share #14 Posted October 17, 2019 VF-112 "Broncos" Navy nylon flight suit from the end of the 40s. Not sure if the patch was originally sewn on this suit. However I like it.

BlueBookGuy Posted October 17, 2019 Share #16 Posted October 17, 2019 ...that G-4A (David Clark suppose?) is 'shamefully' gorgeous... fantastic, I like it so much. Here my #2 favorite flight suit, a Navy/USMC tiger-striped pattern presumably made at Okinawa in mid-'60s - similar suits for USAF were invariably from Thailand, I had read back then. Unmarked as for airman/unit identity, but I had looked for a tiger flight suit through many years before finding this one.

bazelot Posted October 17, 2019 Share #20 Posted October 17, 2019 THere is mine. A painted USAAF ANS-31A flight suit complete with AAF star and wings on the sleeve named to a VP118 ( Pettit) crewmember. It is very rare to find painted Navy gear from WWII. It looks like Army and Navy gear swap was common in the Pacific. This one came with pictures, his helmet and goggles and a few other things.. It is named to Jim Pettit from VPB-118. VPB 118 saw a ton of action early in 1945 and I was lucky enough to locate and get copies of one of Jim's fellow crew member's log book The beauty about the helmet is that there are all the locations where Jim Pettit flew written all over it. He must have written them as he was changing locations. The locations start on the right side of the helmet with Saipan Islands, Johnston Island, Guam Island, Kaneohe Bay Oahu T.H., Midway, Eniwetok, Tinian, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, NAS Hutchinson, Kansas, NAAS Camp Kearny, California, NAS North Island, San Diego, California, NAAS Crows Landing, California, and NAS Jacksonville, Florida. horridohutch Posted October 30, 2019 Share #24 Posted October 30, 2019 I was given this flight suit by the man who I returned a helmet to.... he was the Intelligence Officer in the squadron for at least a couple of cruises that I know of. Told me he had a bit of flight time. I assume he did since I had his helmet. I appreciate that he tried to make it right but it still stings.... not sure if I will ever find another one like that!
