cerick1450 Posted October 5, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 5, 2019 Hello Is this a WW2 era CIB. It has a frosted back and is marked Sterling.. Thank you
Nebelhund Posted October 5, 2019 Share #2 Posted October 5, 2019 Looks to be WW2. One of the best ways to tell age is to see how long the post pins are. When you put the clasps on the pins, do they travel to the bottom? As in do the clasps sit on the badge or is there a gap? Usually the older ones have shorter pins. cerick1450 Posted October 5, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted October 5, 2019 Here is another pic with the clutchback. the pin on the other side has a slight bend to it, so it is hard to tell.. Clutchback marked Patent pending...
Kadet Posted October 5, 2019 Share #5 Posted October 5, 2019 That is a WWII-made example. I believe these frosted versions were made by N.S. Meyer beginning in 1945 and in to the early post war period. They are often found on end of war uniforms. I say WWII-made because there were thousands produced under this contract and they continued to be issued in to the 1960s. The other poster is correct; if the clutch is flush with the back of the badge it is probably WWII. The versions with dark gun metal reverses are earlier WWII production.
