Looks to be WW2. One of the best ways to tell age is to see how long the post pins are. When you put the clasps on the pins, do they

travel to the bottom? As in do the clasps sit on the badge or is there a gap? Usually the older ones have shorter pins.

Here is another pic with the clutchback. the pin on the other side has a slight bend to it, so it is hard to tell.. Clutchback marked Patent pending...

That is a WWII-made example. I believe these frosted versions were made by N.S. Meyer beginning in 1945 and in to the early post war period. They are often found on end of war uniforms. I say WWII-made because there were thousands produced under this contract and they continued to be issued in to the 1960s. The other poster is correct; if the clutch is flush with the back of the badge it is probably WWII. The versions with dark gun metal reverses are earlier WWII production.

Pins for ww2 era cib is only a 1/4 inch. Anything longer is post war or possible theater made
