VF31 USN Ace Pilots patch

I picked this up off of Ebay in a grouping of patches, supposedly from the estate of Arthur Ray Hawkins

it came along with a Comcarairgru 1 a VA46 and a VA12 patch.

It seems legit to me as the same seller had another pair of patches up which I couldn't afford that had another VF31 and a very early Blue Angles patch. (went for over 400)

So here is what believe is a WW2 VF 31 insignia they flew off the USS Cabot and the USS Belleau Wood the history of the squadron and Air group was pretty impressive.

Looks like the flying meataxes to me! I recently got what I am sure is a repro to go with the aviation greens I have for a VF31 man.
