Mickey D Posted January 2, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2009 I won this mag pouch along with the two unmarked pinned mags on GB. I have compared it to other Russell pouches on this site and found the printing is on the backside as opposed to the inside flap area. Is this a correct pouch? Date Sept. 1918, with the 19 behind the snap rivet. Also, how were these pouches carried, since there aren't any belt loops? Thanks in advance

Mickey D Posted January 2, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted January 2, 2009 Thanks. I figured they were Colt Mags being shy any markings. I'm new to this military collecting and wasn't looking for the pouch, but just nice war era 1911 mags. To me the pouch was a plus.
Greg Robinson Posted January 2, 2009 Share #4 Posted January 2, 2009 Thanks. It's my understanding that magazines that have pinned floor plate and are unmarked were made by Colt.
SI Gordon Posted January 2, 2009 Share #5 Posted January 2, 2009 Also, how were these pouches carried, since there aren't any belt loops? The mag pouch was usually worn on the web pistol belt and snapped to the loan snap on the belt. Many soldiers if carrying the auto carried more than just one pouch with the snapped one holding the other/s in place. Of note a WW1 vet told me that magazines he carried were placed in the pouch with the base tab of the mag to the outside of the pouch for easy removal. BTW nice mags Bob
