WW1 era summer tunic button question

Recommended Posts

Hello,I realize this is a very vague question and I did not have a camera with me at the time....I saw what I believe to be a(summer) cotton tunic at a flea market....the buttons, both pocket and body were retained by a wire ring and not sewn in place....was this ever correct or is it a modern rehab job....I am certainly not sure of the model jacket so am curious if any non heavy wool models used this form of securing the buttons...Many thanks-Scott

I think that is legit....I have had them with the rings and with a "hair pin" type holder. I think the purpose was to allow the buttons to be removed when cleaning the uniform. Just my observations....

Check out my website of Military Relics and Collectibles: http://www.ourboysof98.com
I try to update it by adding several new items each month, so keep checking back.

Thanks,
keith
