Travd3 Posted September 6, 2019 Share #1 Posted September 6, 2019 Not sure if this is the right forum to post. I have tried researching this pin , but no luck. It tests sterling and 10k gold (letters) I believe it is a Pre-Dreadnought Battleship. The lettering looks to me like BRESi with the Si worn off. ANY help with the ID and ANY info. would be greatly appreciated.
siege1863 Posted September 6, 2019 Share #2 Posted September 6, 2019 Could be Brest as in the port city of Brest, France. I know the battleship Mississippi (BB-23) was part of the Atlantic Fleet that sailed to Europe in late 1910. Among the many stops was Brest in early December 1911. Travd3 Posted September 6, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted September 6, 2019 I think you may be onto something with BREST France. I took a look at ships close to the time frame of the Mississippi and the closest I could find with 3 stacks and 2 towers was the Virginia (BB-13 to BB-17) & Connecticut (BB-18 to BB-22, BB-25) Class ships. Let me know what you thoughts may be on those.
siege1863 Posted September 6, 2019 Share #4 Posted September 6, 2019 The pin may not be a representation of a real ship. If it is a generic design, it could be sold to any number of sailors on other ships.
The Meatcan Posted September 7, 2019 Share #5 Posted September 7, 2019 The ship on the pin reminds me of those so-called French "floating hotel" pre-dreadnaughts.
