Escadrille Posted January 2, 2009 Share #31 Posted January 2, 2009 Nice grouping Dennis! The Italian sleeve wing has the grey background which is different than the ones I've seen (black background). Bevin was one of the "South Camp" pilots at Foggia. I wonder if they all had similar Italian sleeve wings (vs black background for the "West Camp" pilots). The one on your uniform is more like the ones I've seen on WW1 Italian pilot uniforms - maybe a result of having been one of the few US pilots posted to an Italian squadron? Happy New Year! Thanks for the posting! Charlie W.

Thanks for the posting! Charlie W. Charlie, How are you? - Happy New Year to you too!! - I will be posting more images of the Bevin group to include photos with this wing (Italian). As you know there were very few pilots that served with the Italians and it's my feeling that they wore the same insignia as their Italian counterparts. I only know of 1 other documented Foggione pilot's group. - I'll try to find out if that group has the Italian wing and what color background it may have. I'm sure there must be more out there and maybe some one can chime in. Let's talk sometime - Best, Dennis
Belleauwood Posted January 2, 2009 Author Share #33 Posted January 2, 2009 Lt. Bevin proved to be a very lucky fellow as the following photos might suggest. Not only did he crash while training at Princton, he also crash while training on Farmans. There were more Americans killed in training crashes in Italy that were killed by the enemy. The first group of 3 photos were at Princeton -

Belleauwood Posted January 2, 2009 Author Share #38 Posted January 2, 2009 Crashes in the Farman's at Foggia were obviously the norm for our American Flyer's, including Lt. Bevin. Notice his uniform - It's the one pictured earlier
