1945fordgpw Posted August 30, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2019 Thank you for including me in this forum! I was fortunate enough to buy a 1945 Ford GPW recently. I am trying to learn about its use with the military. A contact at the Smithsonian recommended I ask the experts on this site for guidance. Any help is appreciated. Thank you! RustyCanteen Posted August 30, 2019 Share #3 Posted August 30, 2019 Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately records pertaining to individual vehicle use in WWII are sporadic, and there is no easy way (if indeed you are that fortunate and find a record still exists) to find out where your GPW was issued or used during WWII. Sometimes people will start restoring a WWII jeep and find that it has painted markings on it, and that can be a clue to it's past history. But often the markings are long gone, and we are left guessing. Being a 1945 model, there are some interesting differences from earlier GPW production, and if you are planning on restoring your vehicle to a factory appearance, you will want to learn more about those details. 1945fordgpw Posted August 31, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted August 31, 2019 Thanks Rusty Canteen. Other than g503.com where else would you recommend looking for documentation? I am aware of many differences in how GPW evolved during the war. How would these indicate where it was sent and how it was used? Many thanks!
