vzemke Posted August 24, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 24, 2019 Any help identifying these would be much appreciated. I believe they are US Air Force. Thanks! Vance
Mark1 Posted August 24, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2019 The middle patch is the 701st Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron, and the bottom patch is some kind of crew patch. Mark
Randy Posted August 24, 2019 Share #3 Posted August 24, 2019 Top is the 3593d Periodic Maint. Sq. from Nellis AFB. There is also a version with the red and blue reversed. Randy
vzemke Posted August 25, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted August 25, 2019 Thanks! I would have never guessed that a unit numbered 3593rd would simply put a "93" on their patch.
Randy Posted August 25, 2019 Share #5 Posted August 25, 2019 It was very common for USAF 4 digit units to do this. It also leads to a lot of confusion. Because these units are provisional they have no history and also don't submit their patch designs for approval due to their supposed temporary nature. Here's a great example of a patch always misidentified. It is not the 97th FS, it is the 3597 Combat Crew Training Sq. But they flew fighters and pilots don't want to be in training units, so they took a few liberties. Your 3593 PMS above would have serviced their F-86s.
