uscollector Posted August 23, 2019 Share #3 Posted August 23, 2019 Could you please explain what a Meritorious Service Purple Heart is? Thank you.
tarbridge Posted August 23, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted August 23, 2019 A Meritorious Service Purple Heart was awarded for acts of Merit instead of a wound. They did away with this practice near or about WWII.
dhcoleterracina Posted August 23, 2019 Share #5 Posted August 23, 2019 I believe that awarding a Purple Heart for wounds was secondary when it was re-instituted in around 1932 by General MacArthur. Primarily it was an award "for military merit" and if you received the MSCC then you qualified for a Purple Heart. I think it is estimated that there were only about 1500 MSCC Purple Hearts awarded. A rare medal.
