Queen City had a large contract (when I say large it is meant as over $50k) with the Navy for fixed blade knives in 1944. Considering these knives were probably under a buck a piece that is a large amount they supplied for a small company. They also had two large contracts for folding knives with the Army in 1944 and 1945. So yes they did supply knives on contract to the military during WW II.

All the best

This is from a post that dustin made about four years back.

The date on the request is after the USS Ross, (DD563) was commissioned and before it had completed shake down trials, (hope I'm using the correct term here for the Navy). The Destroyer would head out for Pearl Harbor and then continue on to join the fleet for the invasion of Saipan.

The story of issued vs. private purchase is at least a bit more complicated than we like to deal with it.

Oh good, Sactroop, you dug that up. I tried a short search for that letter but gave up.

Dealing in the realm of knives is a lot like untangling a ball of fishing line. The date of this letter was during a time of transition to larger hunting knives were the 6-inch bladed types were the preferred in the US Navy.

I got to confess dustin, I hang on to a lot of the stuff you post. Just in case something goes majorly wrong some day and it's the only copies I have.
