mhalstead1950 Posted August 21, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 21, 2019 I recently bought this on one of those used clothing apps, there is evidence of PFC chevrons and a smaller round patch on left sleeve, that I believe was the 24th infantry division. It does have the laundry number 'W8459' marked on the inside numerous times, given the purple heart I figured I could find an ID on it by searching through the Korean War casualties on fold3. I went through every W last name in the database, without a single match (yes all 6,852 results). It came out of Ohio, that's about all I know. I guess I'm wondering if there were casualties that wouldn't have made it into the records because I believe it's all original to the jacket, the seller who came about the jacket from her job working in an antique shop said it was all as found. Even without an ID im ahead on the deal, but I really hate to give up on finding one, as I'm sure it has a hell of a story behind it. Any leads as to of how I could continue my research would be greatly appreciated. Anyhow, I hope y'all enjoy seeing it.
mhalstead1950 Posted August 21, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted August 21, 2019 There were a few other numbers either written or stamped within the jacket that I wasn't really sure what they were.
ssggates Posted August 21, 2019 Share #3 Posted August 21, 2019 Beautiful jacket! I can only vouch that I have encountered several confirmed Korean War WIAs who did not make the casualty list.

I can only vouch that I have encountered several confirmed Korean War WIAs who did not make the casualty list. Thank you, that's really what I need to know. I was honestly really confused why I couldn't find him, does anyone here know if there are any resources that have Korean War vets cataloged with their service numbers, I'm perfectly fine going through a few hundred pages and cross referencing to find a potential match, I just don't know where to begin?
