Mr. Scratch Posted August 14, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 14, 2019 Picked up from online auction on a whim. Vietnam-era steel pot. The camo itself is actually not a bad job, seems to be applied with a stencil and/or airbrush. The blue though is a little too strange, but then I look at some of the bright colors that occasionally surface out of SV camo patterns and you never know. Any opinions on this one? usoverlord Posted August 14, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 14, 2019 I like it, blue on a helmet isn't all that odd at all. Lots of Navy helmets were blue. Also the blue is a good match with the green. Nice find.

Nickman983 Posted August 15, 2019 Share #6 Posted August 15, 2019 I'd like to see some more pictures. I wasn't crazy about it when I saw it listed but I don't have a lot of knowledge on camo helmets
Mr. Scratch Posted August 15, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted August 15, 2019 Ah! Well, I'm glad this stand a chance! Like I said, the camo is actually pretty well done, and appears to have maybe been mostly applied with a loose-fitting stencil by a somewhat experienced hand (no paint runs or goofiness, the patterns are appropriately organized and shaped), so that might suggest it isn't necessarily a kid's one-off toy. As I said before, it it hadn't been for the weird color, I wouldn't have questioned it so much. Poking around this site, it does appear that blue helmets of a similar shade are indeed not uncommon in the Navy, though I haven't found a camo version like this yet. Here are some more images.Other side. Mr. Scratch Posted August 15, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted August 15, 2019 Front. There is a blue stripe that runs over the crown front to back, mohawk-style. If a stencil was used, then it appears to have been applied in two halves, with a stripe down the center that was uncovered.

Cap Camouflage Pattern I Posted August 15, 2019 Share #10 Posted August 15, 2019 Very weird, although ARVN did use strange colors including blue in camos occasionally this doesnt look like any I've seen them use in pics
Eugèn Posted August 15, 2019 Share #11 Posted August 15, 2019 In my opinion it's a recent job. The blue is too much brillant.
BOLO Posted August 15, 2019 Share #12 Posted August 15, 2019 most likely just something a kid painted for fun with some extra blue paint or possibly a helmet used by Coastal Defense? US or Foreign?
