wwnuttycollector Posted August 13, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2019 Original WW2 KA-BAR I've had this KA-BAR for many years I have researched this knife here, and believe that it is a 2nd version (1943) of the USMC knife The sheath is labeled with HOOVER K. (Kenneth?) E. on the rear of the sheath Am I correct that this would only been issued in WW2? Thanks
mikedon Posted August 13, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2019 Yes. Bill Walters calls it the sixth generation KA-BAR - USMC. First version to have a dark Parkerized blade. There was only one variation of a WWII KA-BAR - USMC knife after this one. It had the small lettered "USMC", pinned pommel, and a fatter handle. Knife #12, page 406, of Bill Walters new book. Charlie Flick Posted August 14, 2019 Share #6 Posted August 14, 2019 Am I correct that this would only been issued in WW2? No. It is correct that these knives were only manufactured by Ka-Bar for the Marine Corps during WW2. However, after WW2 they continued to be issued through the Korean War and into the Vietnam war. Indeed, I would guess that there are still probably still a few laying around in a back corner of the Marine Corps Supply Depot in Barstow or elsewhere to this day. mikedon Posted August 14, 2019 Share #7 Posted August 14, 2019 That is right, manufactured not necessarily actually issued.
