Help identifying This flag.

Recommended Posts

Hi, hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I picked this up at a local flea market today along with some patches and I’m curious if anyone here has come across something like this. It appears to be hand painted.

The castle part heads me towards engineers, but the cross on the top says something different

Its definitely the coat of arms from Hamburg, Germany.

Maybe some naval flag originating from the port or post WW1 German Military era.

Heres a link to it and a picture of it:

Seems pretty small for a flag, maybe part of a jacket or shirt ?

Could be for a banner or other similar use.

We seem to get a lot of these European city coat of arms as patches, pins, etc. They seem to be easy to confuse with military insignia. Many of them came back as souvenir items with travelling GI's.

The material seems fairly thick for a flag to me
