ram957 Posted August 8, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 8, 2019 I am told that this is an engine cover from a Wright Cyclone engine and that it roughly measures 8 3/4" x 3 1/4". Anyone know if it is in fact from the engine and where specifically it is located ? Thanks....
Keith Posted August 8, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 8, 2019 Rocker arm cover. Perhaps? I googled the 1820 and it is not from that engine. Perhaps a smaller radial.
Keith Posted August 9, 2019 Share #3 Posted August 9, 2019 I did a lot of looking and could find no Wright radials with a rocker arm cover like that. Can't think of, or find, any other place on the engine that would have a cover like that. I am still thinking a rocker arm cover but perhaps just a shipping cover for a cylinder and not an in-service item? In my working career many moons ago as an airline mechanic we had a fleet of DC-3's and one C-47. They all had P&W 1830's except one which had the Wright 1820. It has been a long time ago, but I just can't come up with any place on that motor, or accessories, that had a cover like that.
ram957 Posted August 9, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted August 9, 2019 Keith...Thanks..I also did a lot of research and found nothing like that...I even looked through Technical Manuals. Still a mystery...The owner has no idea either....
