mars&thunder Posted August 4, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 4, 2019 Recent flea market find. 1919 German notebook (about 4 x 6) used by a WW2 era GI to record the details of his military service. He arrived just as the war ended and was bounced around between units as they rotated home. 589th FA (106th Division), Div Arty 1st Armored Division, 31st AAA, and finally 60th Infantry Regiment. 13 pages of entries. ID'd. Interesting look at what life was like for soldiers during this transition period.
ramram Posted August 8, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 8, 2019 Nice pick up. Post war diaries can be historically interesting and there's far less material out there from this period. Rob M
currahee1942 Posted August 19, 2019 Share #3 Posted August 19, 2019 Hello This is a interesting item, can you tell me in what battalion he was in the 60th IR and where he did his occupation duty ? Greets Matthias
mars&thunder Posted August 20, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted August 20, 2019 Mathias - His time with the 60th Infantry Regiment was in Esslingen. He wasn't with a specific battalion that he mentions - says he was in the Security Detachment. That was his final station before he shipped home. Prior to that he was in the outskirts of Stuttgart. Prior to that Russelsheim, Sollingen, Mingolsheim, Mayen, Other locations as well, but for short durations of time (usually less than a week) to include 8 days in Vevivers, Belgium (that's how he spelled things anyway).
