usaf70 Posted July 21, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2019 Were any of these patches affiliated with any particular squadron or generic party suit patches? Thanks
usaf70 Posted July 22, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted July 22, 2019 All three patches came from same USAF estate. He flew backseat in F-4 and also flew F-111 and B-52s.
gwb123 Posted July 22, 2019 Share #3 Posted July 22, 2019 The Road Runner looks like a typical commercial kids/hippie patch. Notice the very prominent copyright mark. You probably could have ordered this one from the back of a comic book back in the day. With that said, it could have been used to symbolize missions along the Ho Chi Minh trail. Nothing says the patches used back by then military personnel all had to be local made or from official sources.
Randy Posted July 23, 2019 Share #4 Posted July 23, 2019 The top one: I've seen various versions worn by T-33 pilots doing dissimilar air combat with the F-4s. I have seen this one before, when I'm home I'll look further. The middle one: was he possibly in the 13 TFS in SEA? Looks Thai made, so it might be a party suit patch for them. But that could also be a 73, as in the year, so again just guesses. Bottom one: I would agree with Gil, commercial made. Now, some of the commercial patches did end up on party suits, but did not originate with a unit. Randy
Randy Posted July 23, 2019 Share #5 Posted July 23, 2019 The Phantom Phucker is from the T-33 section of the 4452d Combat Crew Training Wing. The wing was tasked with training new F-4 crews, and the T-33 was used during the air combat training portion. Randy
