Odd USAAF parachute back,seat pad

It has 2 zippers starting at the top and running down to both bottom corners. Nothing inside. USAAF stencil on both sides and one small square ink stamped inspectors mark. Clearly the parachute harness goes under the small straps, and there are 4 loops, one in each corner, for the seat cushion. Anyone have any information about it?

Do you have a picture of the square inspection stamp? At the very least, that might indicate who made it.

 

How deep is it? Looks like a few inches?

I'd speculate it may have been made to carry an arctic sleeping bag for cold weather survival. It looks like the buckle and strap would allow you to secure it after rolling it up and the attached straps are for carrying?

would agree for sure to be used as a back pack after the jump...as to what went inside.. sleeping bag is as good as anything, that and a survival kit...

 

possible that it was locally manufactured based on units requirements?
