37thguy Posted July 4, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2019 I couldn't find a Topic already started regarding watches throughout the wars so I thought Id start one. I've recently gotten hooked on the "SOG" Seikos. While none of these are IDd to a Trooper that wore one, they are the same style as those worn in service. Always looking for more if you know of any. KASTAUFFER Posted July 13, 2019 Share #3 Posted July 13, 2019 Here is a WWII private purchase watch sent home in the personal effects of 2nd Lt Lawrence C. Jones after he was KIA on Sept 3, 1943 over Italy serving with the 98th BG. The watch hadn't been touched in 75 years when I got it. AS soon as I wound it, it took right off. I cant find out anything about the brand " ROMAN " . It does have the hack feature, the case is silver, but the back is stainless. It is made in the USA. kfields Posted July 14, 2019 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2019 Nice watches! Here is my grandfathers watch he received from his fraternity brothers when he left the University of Illinois in 1918 to join the Army. And it still works!
kfields Posted July 14, 2019 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2019 And here is another Elgin watch I purchased at a militaria shop here in Dayton, Ohio. It is of WW2 vintage. It has a NOS watch band on it....and it works too!

hirsca Posted August 11, 2019 Share #13 Posted August 11, 2019 Here is the only one I have now, sold the others. Keeping this one since it has a 1944 serial number, the year of my birth. Estate sale find, not working. Had it serviced, runs perfectly. NOS watch band from a friend. Enjoy. Al

37thguy Posted January 30, 2022 Author Share #17 Posted January 30, 2022 The 'Official' SOG watch was the 7005~8030. Other models are called that but this is truly the only one. Here's a pic of Ben Baker holding one. He was 'Q' of the Special Forces CISO operations director. It's an easy one to pick out as it's the only one w/o day/date. Just the date window on these. Be prepared to pay up for one of these though. Last I checked, and when I bought these, they were a healthy journey North of $1k
37thguy Posted January 30, 2022 Author Share #18 Posted January 30, 2022 There is also a white dial 7005~8030 thats very hard to find. I've been told that they were very sought after, but not an 'Official" CISO issue item
immurement Posted March 9, 2022 Share #19 Posted March 9, 2022 Outstanding posts 37thguy! I've collected SOG stuff for a good bit and never felt the urge to get one of the Seikos — you just changed my mind.

268th C.A. Posted March 9, 2022 Share #21 Posted March 9, 2022 How about this one.... This was worn in three overseas war theaters by a maverick officer, its 1945 vintage, He retired a Lt. Col. in the Air Force. I've had it cleaned and replaced the watch band (NOS) and cracked crystal, the box came from another collector. It keeps perfect time. It came directly from his widow. She was a real trooper. She was in her late 70s when I met her, since gone too now. The watch maker said he was surprised how clean it was inside, It looks new with a 1945 date. I've has this about 25 years.
hirsca Posted March 9, 2022 Share #22 Posted March 9, 2022 Great topic. Great find 268th C. A. Since posting (#13) my 1944 A-11 Bulova, I have acquired two more watches. A private purchase MIDO with a 24 hour dial (left) and a VN era 1964 BENRUS DTU-2A/P (right). I put a NOS band on the MIDO. The 1964 BENRUS is a recent acquisition from the estate of a USAF fighter pilot. It has its original band with a unique repair for a missing spring pin using a paper clip. I'm leaving it as is. I wear this one daily now. Enjoy, Al
e19 Posted March 9, 2022 Share #23 Posted March 9, 2022 Not a military watch, but his sergeant told him to buy a Rolex! Watch the video. https://winkgo.com/appraised-rolex-watch-antiques-roadshow/
268th C.A. Posted June 9, 2022 Share #24 Posted June 9, 2022 Its all preference and taste, I had a Rolex Oyster stainless and gold, It was new when I got it. I never liked it. Perpetual wind. Servicing it $400. It never kept time worth a crap. It set in my safe for years. I sold it about 4 years ago. I'll never own another. Again just me. Its a status symbol. You can pick up girls with one on....that's the only plus. LOL. P/S I've has a Seiko I've worn for 35 years. Runs like a champ. People want to buy it.
