hist3891 Posted July 4, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2019 This flag was included in a small WWI grouping that I recently purchased. Any information on its age would be appreciated. The only markings I can find are "3 x 5" and what appears to be "Lawrence" written above the lower grommet. Thanks in advance for your assistance and feedback. -hist3891

hist3891 Posted July 4, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted July 4, 2019 Thank you. The veteran passed away in 1981, so I know it is not his burial flag. Could anyone give an approximate date based on the flag's construction? -hist3891
Mr.Jerry Posted July 6, 2019 Share #7 Posted July 6, 2019 Hard to date any closer, it certainly could be WWI era, are the grommets bronze?
hist3891 Posted July 7, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted July 7, 2019 Hi Mr. Jerry, Thanks for the reply. I would guess bronze because of the dark color. What is the easiest way to tell the difference between brass and bronze? I always think of brass as having a more yellow patina. -hist3891
Mr.Jerry Posted July 13, 2019 Share #9 Posted July 13, 2019 I usually think of bronze as being the darker color, just wasn't sure that it was what I was seeing. I would think with bronze grommets it is an older flag.
