I've been looking for an 48 star flag from the 30's or 40's but I'm not sure how to determine the age of a flag I am looking at. Does anyone have any helpful advice?

there is a long answer and a short answer- I guess this is a bit of both:

If you find a "staggered" 48 star pattern you know that it is from 1912-1920s era. Otherwise I look for things like manufacture markings, and try and date from there. Also I tend to think of bronze grommets being earlier, then zinc and brass- but not a solid way to date. I also like sewn stars and wool bunting as being earlier. Of course you can also find the US Naval ensigns which are actually dated- but more expensive.

I have not seen that tag before, but the maker did make them in the 40-50s. I kind of like the "commando" name, that makes me think more WWII era.
