LtRGFRANK Posted December 28, 2008 Share #1 Posted December 28, 2008 Just picked this up yesterday for $7. USMC marked. Made by Lite MFG 1943. Lewis lists it on Page 165 of "Doughboy to GI". BAG, CANVAS, FIELD. It was modeled after the M1936 Field bag but the straps were sewn on. You could carry over the shoulder or the straps could be hooked in the middle and be carried as a pack. I think it was mainly a ParaMarine item. Anyone have more info on its use, rarity, or history? Thanks. Robert

craig_pickrall Posted December 28, 2008 Share #3 Posted December 28, 2008 It was also the issue bag to women Marines. Look here for more info: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...?showtopic=2406 Check the manual at the beginning of the thread as it covers this pack. Greg Robinson Posted December 28, 2008 Share #4 Posted December 28, 2008 In 1940 the Marine Corps adopted what was a close copy of the Army M1936 field "musette" bag. But they called it an "officer's field pack" and it was designed to be worn as a back pack. Then in 1943 they modified it into what's shown above and it could be either a back pack or shoulder bag. Here are pics of the first year of production (1940) USMC Officer's Field Pack made by Powers & Company
